Net Neutrality Matters

Anyone who knows me would tell you I’m into technology. I care about it and so should you. As we speak there is a movement in the works for ISPs to start creating different tiers of service depending on the usage of their users on their network. These tiers would change the way our internet works. ISPs would, in essence, be in competition with each other and would have complete authority of what services their customers can and cannon access and at what speed. ISPs say they need more money to keep up with the growing user base of broadband users. Creating tiers is not the way to go about this. ISPs are claiming they are doing it because they want to hold accountable the content provider for the amount of access they use to the internet network. The internet has been a place where information and access are uniform and free. This movement is a step away from our Free America. PC magazine compares this to what is happening in China: “The only difference between the U.S. and China is that here the ISPs, and not the government, are blocking sites.” Net Neutrality is becoming a big issue. Let your senators know that this matters to you. Tell them to support S.2917, guaranteeing net neutrality. If you want to read more about Network Neutrality, check out this complete documentation on Wikipedia’s website here. Right now the bill resides with the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
